Learning program or digital textbook?
When selecting technologies for digital teaching and learning, a distinction must be made between focused learning programs and holistic textbooks.
Learning programs and digital textbooks are equally important for greater educational success in the future. Learning programs can be used effectively in a variety of subjects, from elementary school through high school, depending on their focus. Holistic textbooks can significantly increase educational success in teaching and acquiring basic skills in foreign languages and STEM subjects, especially in secondary schools.
Brainix is a digital textbook that aims to optimally support all success factors for digital teaching and learning.

Holistic textbooks such as Brainix cover all three functional areas: content, monitoring and administration.
State-run learning platforms are currently being developed (e.g., School Cloud, Mebis, Logineo). Once these platforms are technically mature and established in schools, they can take over the functional areas of administration and monitoring. Focused learning programs as well as comprehensive textbooks should then be offered integrated on these platforms to make their use as easy as possible for teachers and schools.
Quantensprung mit Brainix
Brainix claims to be the first digital textbook to comprehensively cover the requirements for successful digital teaching and learning. The currently available offerings for sixth-grade mathematics and English at Bavarian grammar schools were developed as part of a research project funded by the Digital Education Foundation.
Rethinking learning materials
Results from school trials with Brainix textbooks confirm that high-quality digital textbooks can significantly increase teaching and learning success. But:
Quality is key: The technical and didactic quality of the textbook is crucial for success. Experts from the educational sector and experienced software specialists must work together effectively.
Digital textbooks are expensive: developing high-quality offerings that cover a complete curriculum costs up to ten times as much as developing textbooks.
The corresponding additional investments that our country needs to make for high-quality digital textbooks are sensible,
if the use of digital textbooks actually increases general learning and educational success and
when system-integrated differentiation supports particularly socially disadvantaged pupils in such a way that they are assured of a self-determined future.

Um den bestmöglichen Effekt zu erreichen, müssen Erfahrungen im realen Schuleinsatz gemacht werden und im Rahmen eines kontinuierlichen Verbesserungsprozesses in die Lösungen einfließen. Entsprechend wichtig ist ein schneller Start in einen möglichst flächendeckenden Einsatz.
